Toyota Prius Prime and HF/VHF/UHF install | w4kh | on 13/3/22 |
I drive a 2018 Toyota Prius Prime and would like to install my Icom IC-7000 rig, but before I dive in, I'd like some info on what to expect in the form of RF noise from the Deceleration/Braking-to-Battery Converter. Clearly Toyota has a solution, given that the entertainment radio functions noiselessly on both AM and FM bands... I like the car, and at my age and the current price of fuel, I'm not going back to a different vehicle (though I long for the BMW 533i that I drove when I worked all states on 75 meters with 70 watts from the car) Mounting HF and VHF/UHF antennas is not likely to be a problem, as I can fabricate a mount for my Bugcatcher and use standard mounts for the dual band VHF/UHF antenna, but noise reduction seems to be an issue. The Toyota Dealer is my first stop in searching for a solution, but based on previous experiences with dealerships, I'm not real optimistic |
