ARRL Foundation Awards Prestigious Goldfarb Scholarship to Kyle Ebersold, KB1MNN
The Board of Directors of the ARRL Foundation proudly awarded the 2010 William R. Goldfarb Memorial Scholarship to Kyle Ebersold, KB1MNN, of Holland, Massachusetts. Kyle is a senior at Tantasqua Regional High School in Fiskdale, carrying a 4.31 GPA. He has been recognized on the Honor Roll every quarter while participating in varied activities, serving as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, The Tomahawk, performing with the Choraleers -- the school’s a capella chamber choir -- as well as participating in the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Kyle was first licensed in August 2005, holds a General class license and is a member of several Amateur Radio organizations including the ARRL, the Hampden County Radio Association and FISTS. He operates SSB, CW and PSK31 with most contacts on 17, 20, 40 and 80 meters. Kyle’s interest in ham radio began in December 2004 when he received a SWL radio as a gift. Inspired by stories from his grandfather -- who operated in the 1960s as a Novice -- Kyle was bitten by the bug! He plans to attend Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island where he will pursue studies in business.
The Goldfarb Scholarship is the result of a generous endowment from the late William Goldfarb, N2ITP. Before his death in 1997, Goldfarb set up a scholarship endowment of close to $1 million in memory of his parents, Albert and Dorothy Goldfarb. Awarded to one high school senior each year, the Goldfarb Scholarship assists the recipient to receive a four-year undergraduate degree in engineering or science or in the medical or business-related fields. The terms of reference of the generous Goldfarb scholarship award require that recipients demonstrate financial need and significant involvement with Amateur Radio, in addition to high academic performance. The seventh Goldfarb Scholarship winner, Kyle continues the tradition of prior recipients, demonstrating superior academic performance, outstanding leadership and extraordinary Amateur Radio and community service.
More information on the Goldfarb Scholarship, as well as other scholarships administered by the ARRL Foundation, is available on the ARRL Web site. Applications for the Goldfarb Scholarship and other ARRL Foundation Scholarships are accepted each year beginning October 1 and ending February 1 for the academic year that starts the following August/September.
