Tom Hammond, N0SS, of Lohman, Missouri, passed away August 4 from cancer. He was 67. Hammond was the first and only Life Member of the Kansas City DX Club (KCDXC), playing an invaluable role in the club for more than three decades, creating his world famous CW pileup files each year for the annual CW Pileup Competition at the Dayton Hamvention.

“Tom was a dedicated, all-around Amateur Radio operator, mentoring both those new to the hobby, as well as many of us old-timers,” said Bill Henderson, K0VBU. “He was a vast storehouse of practical electronic knowledge, perhaps most recently exhibited in his passion as a beta tester for Elecraft. But as his website demonstrates, his interest and expertise covered many, many facets of our hobby.”

An ARRL Life Member, Hammond was also the past president and current Trustee of the Mid-MO Amateur Radio Club, a member of the First Class Operators Club, the Kansas City DX Club, the International DX Foundation and the CW Operators Club. He was also on ARRL Volunteer Examiner who administered almost 200 license exams since 1985.

A service was held August 13 in Jefferson City. He is survived by his wife Jeri, K0RPH, children and grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the ARRL Scholarship Fund, the Capital City (Missouri) Chapter of the American Red Cross or a charity of the donor’s choice.  -- Thanks to the KCDXC for some information
