UK Space Agency’s First CubeSat Could Launch this Fall
The UKube-1 CubeSat carrying an Amateur Radio transponder may launch in late October, according to BBC News. The satellite, being built by Clyde Space in Glasgow, Scotland, would be the UK Space Agency’s first CubeSat as well as the first satellite built in Scotland. UKube-1 will carry a set of AMSAT-UK FUNcube-2 boards, which will provide a 1200 bps BPSK telemetry beacon on 145.915 MHz, a linear transponder for SSB/CW communication (145 MHz down/435 MHz up) and other payloads. UKube-1 is set to go into space aboard a Soyuz 2 rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Clyde Space Senior Systems Engineer Steve Greenland discussed UKube-1 at the AMSAT-UK International Space Colloquium July 20-21. — AMSAT News Service, BBC, AMSAT-UK and Clyde Space
