VI4ANZAC Final Commemorative Event is Under Way
The VI4ANZAC special event will be commemorating the Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train until December 20.
“These Australian Naval Reservists were ‘Sailors in Khaki,’ and operated as engineers and wireless operators at Kangaroo Beach, Suvla Bay, with the British Army from August 7 until December 20, 1915,” explained Mike Charteris, VK4QS, the VI4ANZAC team leader. “They were in fact the last Australians off of the Gallipoli Peninsula.”
The ANZAC 100 commemoration program of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) has been marking the 100th anniversary of the famous World War I Battle at Gallipoli, in which Australian and New Zealand troops took part.
A special QSL card is available. More details on the current operation are on the VI4ANZAC QRZ.com page.
